Preparation of Ti-46Al-8Nb Alloy Ingots beyond Laboratory Scale Based on BaZrO3 Refractory Crucible

The high Nb-containing TiAl-based alloy ingot beyond laboratory scale with a composition of Ti-46Al-8Nb (at.%) was prepared by vacuum induction melting process based on BaZrO3 refractory crucible. A round bar diameter 85 mm and length 430 finally obtained, the chemical composition, solidification pathway, microstructure tensile properties were investigated. results show that deviations Al Nb content along long central part are approximately ±0.39 at.% ±0.14 at.%, oxygen in can be controlled at around 1000 ppm. structure is full lamellar composed ? ?2 phases, thickness lamellae 0.53 ?m. In case phase, surface higher than middle region centrical region; also, it indicated decreasing trend. During cooling, solidified from peritectic reaction (L + ???) rather via ? phase (???). addition to segregation segregation, ?-phase particles associated triple junction colonies observed. Moreover, longitudinal-cut sample significantly better those transverse-cut sample, strength up as 700 MPa corresponding fracture elongation 1.1%. However, only 375 MPa, 0.52%.
